Lenzing AG produces massive bales of pulp that are processed worldwide – INFORMATICS supports the company in warehouse management , as a recent success story demonstrates.
The massive pulp bales waiting in Lenzing AG’s warehouses to be processed or shipped weigh up to 200 kilograms. “These bales move from production to the receiving area. What makes this unique is that there are no external goods receiving areas; instead, they are only received, transferred, and shipped out via production. From Lenzing, they then go to warehouses around the world,” explains SAP Consultant Marcel Majer, describing the situation prior to the implementation of EWM at Lenzing. At Lenzing, a batch consists of 128 such bales. 128 bales, which are also referred to as a “production run.” “If the production, or parts of it, is to be transferred to another location, this is now controlled via a mobile app.” EWM (Extended Warehouse Management), which replaced the old system, makes this possible.
App for the warehouse
“Lenzing approached us in the fall of 2024.” INFORMATICS began implementation as early as December. “The interfaces at goods receiving communicate with the production machine. This provides us with data such as weight and completion date. The bale is correctly entered into the system and can then pass through goods receiving fully automatically.” Warehouse apps were programmed for this purpose. “The production machine prints the bale number on the bales. Using the mobile apps we implemented, employees can scan the barcode directly on the bale.”
A rollout to additional locations is in the works. “We’ve been working with Lenzing for a long time. As always, the collaboration has been exemplary.”
