System Upgrade at INFORMATICS

From SAP S/4HANA 1909 to S/4HANA 2023 FPS 01 in just one month! As a pioneer, INFORMATICS carried out a major update of its SAP system landscape in April.

The process began with a system copy from the production system to the development system. The upgrade to S/4HANA 2023 FPS01 was then performed on the development system. After some minor adjustments, the interfaces to the CRM and HCM systems were restored to enable comprehensive testing in the areas of accounting, order entry, and project management. After the upgrade was successfully tested and approved, the production system went live two days later.

Challenges and Solutions

During the upgrade, it became apparent that the CATSXT application was no longer available in the S/4HANA 2023 version. This application is required at INFORMATICS for managing time entries. Thanks to the quick and innovative work of Henry Ritzlmayr, a custom workaround was developed. Additionally, missing selection variants were identified, which were also resolved internally in a timely manner to avoid disrupting the employees’ workflow.

Benefits of upgrading to S/4HANA 2023 FPS01

The upgrade brought numerous improvements. One highlight is the new data anonymization features, which allow companies to automatically anonymize sensitive data using built-in functions, thereby making it easier to comply with data protection regulations. In addition, numerous new Fiori apps have been introduced that are not only more visually appealing but also offer expanded functionality, significantly simplifying day-to-day work. These innovations not only boost efficiency but also provide an intuitive and pleasant user experience. Another advantage: there are no additional SAP licensing costs.

The timing for an upgrade to S/4HANA 2023 FPS01 is ideal, as SAP follows a two-year release cycle. With the ever-growing demands of digitalization and automation, the new version not only offers greater efficiency but also the ability to specifically support future business developments. Especially in light of the increased use of AI-driven processes and expanded automation capabilities, it is essential to bring the IT landscape up to date at an early stage.
