System upgrade at INFORMATICS

From SAP S/4HANA 1909 to S/4HANA 2023 FPS 01 in just one month! As a pioneer, INFORMATICS carried out an important update of the SAP system landscape in April.

The process started with a system copy from the production system to the development system. The upgrade to S/4HANA 2023 FPS01 was then carried out in the development system. After minor rework, the interfaces to the CRM and HCM systems were restored to enable comprehensive tests in the areas of accounting, order entry and project management. After successfully checking and approving the upgrade, the productive system went live two days later.

Challenges and solution

During the upgrade, it turned out that the CATSXT application was no longer available in the S/4HANA 2023 version. This application is required at INFORMATICS for the management of time bookings. Thanks to Henry Ritzlmayr's fast and innovative work, a customer-specific workaround was developed. In addition, missing selection variants were noticed, which were also quickly resolved internally so as not to impair the employees' workflow.

Advantages of upgrading to S/4HANA 2023 FPS01

The upgrade brought with it numerous improvements. One highlight is the new data anonymization functions, which allow companies to automatically anonymize sensitive data with the help of integrated functions and make it easier to comply with data protection regulations. In addition, numerous new Fiori apps have been introduced, which are not only more graphically appealing but also functionally enhanced, making day-to-day work much easier. These innovations not only increase efficiency, but also offer an intuitive and pleasant user experience. Another advantage: there are no additional SAP license costs.

Why does the upgrade make sense now?

The timing for an upgrade to S/4HANA 2023 FPS01 is ideal, as SAP follows a two-year release cycle. With the ever-increasing demands on digitalization and automation, the new version not only offers greater efficiency, but also the opportunity to provide targeted support for future business developments. Especially with regard to the increased use of AI-driven processes and extended automation functions, it is essential to bring the IT landscape up to date at an early stage.
