At home in the warehouse

Marcel Majer has been with INFORMATICS for twelve years. The 38-year-old talks about his career, the special features of warehouse projects, how important the team is to the footballer and why he has kept his first job to this day.

There weren't even 20 employees when Marcel Majer came to Salzburger Straße in 2013 for a job interview at INFORMATICS, specifically at Otto Kitzmüller. Marcel had just studied business informatics and became aware of INFORMATICS through his fellow students Richard Simmer, Harald Falzberger and Wolfgang Wiesmayr. "The conversation didn't take long," recalls the now 38-year-old from Marchtrenk. Initially hired as a part-time "all-rounder", he started as a full-time employee in April 2014 after completing his Master's degree. "I came without any SAP knowledge, so I had to learn right away and soak up a lot of knowledge from my colleagues. I started as a junior and went all the way through to senior."

From junior to warehouse specialist

Over time, Marcel became a specialist in the warehouse management tool SAP WM. "SAP Warehouse Management used to be a rather simple module. With the new SAP EWM, it's now a lot more complex." "In the beginning, we only had minor adjustments and/or partial implementations, but now we support the entire process."

Focus on complex warehouse processes

"There are currently a lot of inquiries and projects in the area of warehouse management and we are now one of the larger teams with four people in the consulting area." When inquiries become more concrete, Marcel and his team start the workshop phase. "We take a look at the warehouse on site so that we can visualize it in our heads." The current handling of the processes is discussed with the customer. "With the exception of stocktaking, almost all other processes, such as goods receipt or picking, are completely different. We therefore need to understand the processes very precisely. This understanding requires a lot of know-how, and the customer is also made responsible." In the test phase, all the individual steps are run through again from A to Z. During the go-live, the team spends one to two weeks with the customer, and even afterwards - in the hypercare phase - they are always on hand if process adjustments are necessary. "If no goods go in or out, that's dicey. If an invoice is sent a few days later, it's not so tragic. Warehouse processes are much more time-critical."

also a team player in his private life

The variety - "you live from project to project and get to know a wide variety of companies and people" - and the freedom Marcel enjoys at INFORMATICS are reasons why he came to stay. Freedom, also in relation to his family. Marcel lives with his wife and two sons (six and eight years old) in Marchtrenk. The sons are now stepping into dad's (soccer) shoes. "I played soccer myself for a long time, including for Bad Schallerbach in the 4th league, and also for Marchrenk. When the kids came along, I switched to 1st grade due to time constraints." Today, he trains his youngest as an U7 coach. "It's fun and keeps me fit." And who knows, maybe his sons will follow their dad into the SAP business.
