A Generational Interview with Wolfgang & Christian

Wolfgang began his career at KEK in November 1996 and, as an administrator, is responsible for all internal technology and IT infrastructure—that is, for KEK’s entire network, including connections to our customers and partners.

Christian joined KEK as an intern in 2018. After completing his training in 2021, he was happily hired full-time and is now making his mark in the areas of Linux administration and SAP Basis.

  1. What has “the young” learned from “the old,” and vice versa?

Christian: From the very first day, I’ve learned almost everything I know today about IT infrastructure and maintenance from Wolfgang. Since I was able to complete my apprenticeship at KEK, this hands-on experience complemented the theory I learned at vocational school very well. Whenever I didn’t understand something in school, Wolfgang helped me out with practical examples and hand-drawn network diagrams, bringing me up to speed on the topic.
Wolfgang: Christian has a bit more of a playful spirit and is very open to new technologies. He encourages me to try new things again and step outside my comfort zone. In the Linux environment, he’s the one I can learn from.
  2. How is the collaboration going?

Christian and Wolfgang: Very well, since we complement each other professionally and share the same dry sense of humor.
Christian: We have the same playful spirit when it comes to IT, and we both know where our strengths and responsibilities lie.
    Wolfgang
: Cristian is very ambitious and full of drive. With him, you often have to put the brakes on rather than give him a push.
  3. What motivated “Alt” to join KEK and remain loyal to the company for so long?

    Wolfgang
: I was welcomed into the KEK family right from the start and was able to fully contribute my ideas and see them through as we built and expanded the IT infrastructure. Constantly facing new challenges without having to go through lengthy bureaucratic channels is what makes my daily work so rewarding.
  4. What made you decide to join KEK, and what do you like about it?

Christian: After completing my first apprenticeship and gaining some work experience, I wanted to move on and get into IT. I knew my uncle worked in IT. Through him, I learned about KEK and eventually applied. A “small” team that wants to grow and has a long average tenure was exactly where I saw myself fitting in.
  5. What do we both like about KEK?

Christian and Wolfgang: A family-like atmosphere, team spirit, a willingness to help, and personal responsibility.
