Generational Interview: Stefanie & Katharina

Stefi has been working in the administrative department at KEK since 1988. She is responsible for accounting and human resources, as well as the day-to-day tasks that keep the business running.

Katharina has been working as an SAP consultant in the QM department for five years. She also works in first-level support for one of our clients.

  1. What have the “young” learned from the “old,” and vice versa?
Stefi: Young colleagues have a completely different perspective on certain things. They’re very dynamic and challenge ways of working that have always been done a certain way. This initially leads to minor disagreements, but ultimately both sides benefit from each other. For example, you learn entirely new approaches that break away from the beaten path. Younger colleagues also like to get involved, are very demanding, and want to make a difference. You have to take this energy into account, incorporate it, and make use of it.
Katharina: You benefit immensely from the long-standing experience of colleagues in dealing with clients and projects. This allows me to constantly expand my knowledge. What struck me most, especially at the beginning, were the different working styles of older and younger colleagues. I had to get used to that at first. But by working together in different teams, you get to know your colleagues and their ideas better, and now there’s a good balance between the different approaches. Here, both age groups really benefit from each other.
  1. How is the teamwork?

Stefi: There’s a strong sense of camaraderie at KEK; we work together constructively and prioritize teamwork. Plus, communication channels are very short and the hierarchy is flat.
Katharina: Communication at KEK is very open and solution-oriented. Team-building events and other activities regularly strengthen our bonds, and new colleagues are integrated into the team right away.
  1. What made “Alt” decide to join KEK and remain loyal to the company for so long?
Stefi: I started out as a secretary, and over the years I took on more and more challenging responsibilities (accounting, human resources). There’s always something new coming up, and it’s never boring. I really appreciate being able to work independently. The tools we use are state-of-the-art. As part of our digitalization efforts, we’ve just introduced a document management system, so I’m slowly being able to say goodbye to paper filing in my department. In the areas under my responsibility, I can deepen my specialized knowledge through continuous professional development and draw on it time and again.
  1. What motivated “Jung” to join KEK, and what does he/she like about it?
Katharina: For me, the SAP software was the main reason I applied in the first place, as it’s very forward-thinking and well-known. The company’s engaging online presentation and the in-person interviews also convinced me, and I haven’t been disappointed. What I also really like is that it’s always possible to get feedback, and the consistently constructive criticism allows me to keep developing my skills. In addition to my actual duties, I also regularly get the chance to dip my toes into other areas and am immediately given a certain amount of responsibility. The company’s great working conditions and benefits, such as working from home or flexible hours, round out the package.
