SAP EHP 8 Release Upgrade at the City of Linz
The City of Linz and INFORMATICS HR Services GmbH have a long history of partnership and collaboration. Working closely with IKT Linz GmbH, we support and advise the various departments on all matters related to human resources.
This includes, among other things, requirements related to payroll (PY) or issues in the areas of organizational management (OM) and personnel administration (PA), regardless of whether these involve ongoing support, minor adjustments, or the implementation of legal changes.
The HR team was then able to provide full support to the city of Linz on another project: the SAP EHP 8 release change/upgrade in the HCM environment.
As a result of this strategic decision, it became necessary to phase out the custom applications. Consequently, the old SAP Portal, along with the Web Dynpro and ESS applications, had to be replaced by the new SAP Fiori Launchpad. The complete configuration and setup of the SAP Fiori Launchpad was carried out by Hannes Prodinger of INFORMATICS.
He then set up and implemented the latest SAP Fiori Standard ESS applications, such as Team Calendar, Time Entry Corrections, and Absence Entry. He also implemented an RSS feed tile to display notifications.
Due to the tight schedule, the decision was made early in the project not to build custom applications from scratch, but to rely on the INFORMATICS Mobile Framework. This allowed us to replace the broadcast distribution and time tracking apps more easily and quickly using our framework, resulting in significant time savings and, consequently, cost savings.

For the PTME transaction (Personnel Time Management Workstation), which essentially replaces the functions of the Maintain Time Data, Time Management Worklist, and Cross-Person/Infotype Time Recording transactions, a decision was made in consultation with the customer and the business departments to replace it with SAP Screen Personas 3.0.
The SAP Screen Personas software product is included in the existing ERP license and allows users to customize SAP screens. Thanks to the personalized settings and improved usability of the user interface, the learning curve for the new interface was kept to a minimum. In addition, the tool delivers excellent performance and enables the development of personalized, clearly structured, and intuitive applications via drag-and-drop. Wolfgang Thurner was responsible for implementing this component.
