CFW + REST = BEST

Everyone is familiar with interface issues. Often, complex solutions such as external servers, specialized software, or additional cloud services are required to ensure communication between SAP and other systems and applications. With its latest product, INFORMATICS has developed a simple solution: the Communication Framework (CFW).

“Thanks to CFW, communication between SAP and external solutions is greatly simplified. It supports REST interfaces—one of the world’s most widely used technologies for data exchange between web services and mobile applications,” explains Bettina Harrer. Data from web services such as payment interfaces, sensors, or web apps can be easily stored in SAP and exported again. Until now, this was only possible with great difficulty.

“CFW is a true data hub. Early adopters are using it, for example, to connect a CRM system or to integrate a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) into their SAP landscape. RFID readers, package tracking, and production planning will also be integrated with CFW in the future,” said Bettina Harrer.

Another advantage: The CFWBTP connector allows the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) to be used to transfer on-premises data to other clouds via BTP. “While this is possible with some competitors’ products, customers are required to use those competitors’ clouds. CFW offers complete freedom of choice and is lean, efficient, and cost-effective.”

simple, affordable, highly efficient

Another advantage is its ease of use. Customers can learn CFW in just one day—without the need for extensive training. “CFW creates interfaces without programming, is extensible in ABAP, and can be configured via an intuitive interface.” Alternatives usually require Java and external tools. CFW, on the other hand, is as flexible as an expensive custom solution through ABAP code customization, yet many functions can be created with little to no coding knowledge. While REST works without CFW, it typically involves greater effort, complex workflows, and lacks centralized management. “CFW eliminates these hurdles: REST services can be created, extended, and centrally managed in the dashboard without code.” Views and tables can also be deployed with just a few clicks. The latest offering from INFORMATICS achieves the feat of working as individually as possible with standard software.
